Über den Künstler
Helfried Stange verwendet für seine Arbeiten Fotos von Industriegebäuden, Landschaftsfotos und Pressefotos aus Zeitschriften. Die Fotos aus Industriegebieten, Aktfotos und Landschaftsfotos werden mit dem Computer bearbeitet, so dass der Realismus der Vorlagen verfremdet wird. Das geschieht durch gewollte Unschärfe. Die Pressefotos werden abfotografiert und ebenfalls mit dem Computer bearbeitet. Durch gewollte Verwackelung und Unschärfe wird auch hier der Realismus der Vorlagen verfremdet. Dabei handelt es sich um aktuelle Fotos aus der Presse und um eigene Fotos, die er zu Fotomalerei werden läßt. Er überführt seine Fotografien in die Sphäre der Malerei. Es ist ein Dialog der Malerei mit der Fotografie.
Helfried Stange wurde 1946 in Meinersdorf in der Nähe von Chemnitz geboren und lebt in Lippstadt. Dem mehrfachen Preisträger geht es nicht um eine Annäherung an einen Stil als Wiedererkennungswert. (*siehe auch Zitat G. Richter) Für ihn steht das gemeinsame ästhetische Bewußtsein im Vordergrund. Konsequenterweise folgte auf die Ausbildung und Tätigkeit als Schriftsetzer ein Studium an der Fachhochschule für Design in Münster (Studien u.a. bei Hartwig, Heydemann und Stegmann).

About the Artist
Helfried Stange creates his works by using photographs of industrial buildings and landscape as well as photographs that have been printed in the newspapers. The photos of industrial parks and landscape are computer processed. The aim of the processing is to defamiliarize the realism of the original photo trough a deliberate blur. The press images are first photographed and then they are also computer processed (*See what says Gerhard Richter in 1966). Deliberate shaking and blurring acts also deconstruct the realism of the original photo in this case. The artist transforms woman shoots as well as current press photos into photo painting. He introduces his photograpy into the sphere of painting, creating a dialogue between the two artistic ways of expression.
The artist Helfried Stange was born in Meinersdorf near Chemnitz/Germany in 1946 and he currently lives in Lippstadt/Germany. For the multiple prize winner, the development of a certain style that has a recognition value does not represent a priority. His main focus is placed on shared aesthetic consciousness. After obtaining his qualification as a typesetter and commencing work, he studied design at the Münster University of Applied Sciences (studying under Hartwig, Heydemann and Stegmann).
